I love to write! I have always loved to write. I remember my first diary. It had a little, gold lock attached to the cover. I kept the key hidden safely in my nightstand, guarding my many secrets. I later kept a journal on our family word processor, the precursor to any computer we would later own. I wrote about friends, travel, and, of course, boyfriends!
I also loved everything that involved art. Photography, drawing and the graphic arts fascinated me. I really enjoyed sketching scenes in my room with bookshelves and books. I played a lot in the arts.
As I grew older, all of this helped further develop my creativity and ultimately led me to a career in marketing and advertising. I helped market products ranging from shoes to garden supplies, which was a blast! I also wrote for a few magazines. It was fun to see my words in print.
Once I became a mom, I dove back into photography. It allowed me to use the creative side of my brain to document my new family (Yup! I took most of the photos here). I even started a journal again. I loved to write so much that, as a full-time mom, I began doing some freelance public relations work for local companies.
As my two girls grew, I built up my small public relations business working with the local media, including newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. That part was exciting, but I found that my favorite part was writing the press release.
In my happy “ah ha!” moment, I decided to try something that’s always been a dream – write a book! I had written some short stories about my two girls years before, but I had something bigger brewing in my brain.
My Own Superpowers is my first book. ADHD has touched each person in our immediate family, and after years of research and experience, I felt this was an important story to write. I took pieces from my childhood, my girl’s childhoods and my experience being a mom, and pulled them all into one story about a girl named Melanie. Her story follows the very emotional ups and downs of a girl learning that she has ADHD, and how she learned to flourish with it.
I have many more stories in my head, some touching on other social and emotional topics, and some just fun, that I hope to write soon!
? Why there is a “PR” my website address? PR stands for public relations. Now that I’m focused on writing, instead of public relations, I decided to get creative. PR stands for Passionate wRiter!
