I somehow pictured my first blog entry to be filled with UNICORNS and RAINBOWS, as I gleefully announced the completion of my first book, My Own Superpowers! Ok, more realistically, it would be filled with signs of spring. I’d describe the wonderful scents wafting by my nose as I sat poolside, researching literary agents and watching my kids and their friends dare each other to jump into the freezing cold water. The scents are here and the pool is almost open, but the friends are absent, as they are in every household across much of the world while we hunker down in quarantine.
While our world may be a little different right now and not at all what I’d pictured in my head, let’s turn to what we do have. We have family, we have the ability to communicate, we have some slow time, and … we have the ability to be a little silly!
Last week, our family played croquet, with a twist. We made a course around the house with all sorts of obstacles from ramps made of old boards, long twisty routes around sticks and picnic tables, and hill challenges around the buckets. Each day now brings on a challenge to make a new “ultimate” course. And yes, you can even do this indoors with a ball and a stick or bat. While the pool-jump challenge into cold water still exists, albeit only with siblings and parents, we’ve created new challenges to fill the extra time.
So, take this time to be a little silly with your family and do things you normally would never have had the time to do before. And I’ll get a little creative with my time, balancing kids, life and figuring out how to get my first book published.
